2018: An Engaged Congregation

“Neglect not the gift that is in thee...” 1 Timothy 4:14

Each one of us has gifts that GOD has blessed us with to advance the kingdom of GOD on earth. Our gifts are not the same but are as unique as the individuals that possess them, but when these gifts are engaged they create a beautiful web of interdependence and connectedness. When individuals are engaged they constantly seek processes that develop their capacities to serve at their maximum potential, (their best self). Not only are individuals high-performers when they are engaged, but constructive, creative, and even healthy competition permeates every aspect of the church community and influences everything and everyone.

Engagement is the emotional commitment the member has to the church, family, personhood, community, and its goals. This emotional, spiritual, religious, and psychological commitment means engaged members actually care about their participation, their gifts, their development, their purpose and their passions. Their passions and those of the church are closely aligned. Engagement influences the behaviors and levels of effort in service to the overarching mission, vision, and goals of the church. The more engagement a member has with the church, small group, committee or ministry, the more effort they put forth. Engagement produces an environment that encourages individuals to take ownership for the success of the church rather than merely being spectators or even worse, commentators and analysts on what is going wrong or right in the church community.

When a congregation is engaged there is a deep feeling and profound awareness of “We” over and against the pull towards an “I” centric focus, which cripples collaborative efforts to the detriment of the whole church’s forward movement and greater good it was created to accomplish. Therefore, in 2018 our focus will be to help our members get engaged where every member is investing fully of their gifts given by the Creator. When members are engaged, the kingdom of God we seek to create, here on earth, comes closer to realization and life is made better for our people. Are you ready to be fully engaged? Make your answer a resounding, yes!

Peace,

Bishop Randy “Mwenda” Brown

WOMEN OF WORSHIP (WOW): "And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

In WOW we are creating an environment where women can listen to each other and grow into a greater confidence about what [We] intuitively know what we need and what our communities need. Women’s History Month (March) provided an excellent opportunity to honor the discipleship of women pioneers. The African woman has administered great and mighty nations, led determined and capable armies into battle and founded splendid and enduring royal dynasties, schools, companies and spiritual movements. Through WOW we take time to reflect upon what God has done and how God continues to use women in the expansion of Kingdom Building.

FEED THE HOMELESS MINISTRY: The ministry is looking for committed members that are willing to serve. The ministry provides a hot breakfast to those who may otherwise not receive a meal all day. The meals are prepared and delivered every other Saturday. If you would like to become a part of this ministry please sign-up in the lobby of the Shrine sanctuary.
